Chinatown and Little Tokyo
We have company visiting and she wanted to go to Chinatown, so we headed out. After shopping for a couple hours in the Dynasty mall there (it’s a huge indoor shopping area with a bunch of vendors selling clothes, toys, housewares, etc.) we headed to Little Tokyo for another hour of shopping. While we were […]

Necromance
Aviva and I decided yesterday to drive to West Hollywood and visit one of our favorite stores in LA, Necromance (we also stopped at the MOCA annex at the Pacific Design Center, the bookstore was removed to provide more space for a video exhibition, and had a really good snack at LaLa’s). There are two […]

More pictures from Santa Monica
Aviva and I and Iggy went to Santa Monica – have you figured out yet that we both like to walk around Santa Monica? This time we did some shopping and then walked along the escarpment overlooking the beach – there is a park along the cliffs and its beautiful – we watched the sun […]

Photos from Santa Monica Pier
The IT group I work in took an afternoon off at Santa Monica Pier, which is a shopping and amusement park out over the Pacific off the Santa Monica beach. I won a small plush fish for Aviva and otherwise talked and took pictures….

Birthday dinner – Firenze Osteria
We’ve eaten at quite a few Osteria in Italy – those eateries are typically high quality but offer a more limited menu than restaurants; we’ve usually had great success eating at osterias. And Firenze Osteria is no exception! Here is the description from their flyer: A stone’s throw from Universal Studios, Firenze Osteria is setting […]

Pasadena
We decided to head to Pasadena on Saturday, so we dropped Iggy at doggy daycare (he loves it there, he runs with the other pups and comes home and sleeps like a log) and drove out to Pasadena. We started with my goal for the trip – I wanted to see the Hiroshige print show […]

Metldown, Farmer’s Market and Venice Beach + @thegeo & @sinburned & @judemanchu
Today is Nathan’s last day on this visit; he had arranged for us to meet up with @sinburned and @judemanchu at Meltdown, a famous comic book store in LA (in west Hollywood). We shopped and talked, and then headed over to the Farmer’s Market for lunch; we all ended up eating from the Singapore’s Banana […]

Little Tokyo
Today I took Nathan down to Little Tokyo so he could shop the anime shops and spend some time with an on-line friend of his that tests games for a living. I took two videos with my iPhone – the first of a cool sculpture I found in the entry way of a building: And […]

Lip Service
Nathan wanted to check out a clothing store that specializes in custom and steampunk clothing called Lip Service. It took over an hour to drive there, but it was worth it – they make the clothes there, and they have some really great designs!
