New search site: Cuil
Its been a good day for reading the NY Times. I found an article (“Former Employees of Google Prepare Rival Search Engine“) on a new search engine, Cuil (pronounced “cool”), that’s being built by former employees of Google. The Wall Street Journal also has an article, “Former Google Engineers Launch Search Engine.”
So I tried it – I did a search I’d done on Google to try to find the amount of US aid, in dollars, sent to Indonesia in 2007. My first search failed, with the complaint it was too specific. My second search returned results but they didn’t include what I wanted (which was mostly true of Google – I had to click around after my search to get an estimated figure).
I’ve added Cuil to my Firefox search engines, and I’ll try it a bit more to see if there’s a sweet spot for this tool.
