Yotsuba&! is a manga series that follows a little girl, Yotsuba, who moves with her father to a new house.  Next door live three sisters:

  • Asagi (the oldest),
  • Fuka (the middle one), and
  • Ena (the youngest).

I bought volumes 2 and 4 from Kinokuniya Bookstore in Little Tokyo; I heard about this series of manga from my son, Nathan, when he came to visit.  He showed me an interesting plastic figure of the box robot from the book series, which I thought was really a clever idea; I bought the robot on eBay and a figure of Yotsuba on vacation from a local anime figure seller in Little Tokyo.  And I think the books are clever too.

Its obvious that Yotsuba is over-precocious and lacking knowledge of common things.  She’s just learning how a good Japanese girl acts.  She’s constantly discovering new things about her surroundings.  Yotsuba is also sometimes quite rude by accident, which is funny.

I plan to read all the books; I ordered volume 3 from Amazon and volume 1 used (but in excellent condition) from an Amazon e-tailer.  I just have to know more about Yotsuba’s past, and I figure we’ll learn that later in the series.
