A good short book describing the history of the Jews in Florence. There were lots of ups and downs for the Jews in Florence – often, they were only allowed particular jobs and only if they did these could they live in the city. A ghetto was established that was very small – too small even for the population which never topped 3000 souls. Jews weren’t equal citizens until after the unification of Italy, in which the Jewish population took part.
