MAKE YOUR POINT!: SPEAK CLEARLY AND CONCISELY ANYPLACE, ANYTIME

Our Toastmasters club, Navigators Toastmasters, hands this book each week to the second place speaking finisher.  I don’t like competition and don’t like awards for club activities, probably because I think we should all be winners for participating and helping each other grow, but in this case coming in second was a benefit.

I am glad I got to read this book.  I’ve learned a lot of the things inside the hard way, and it was nice to be reminded of a few things.

I think the diamond layout for a speech is a great format (its the speaking analogy of the five paragraph essay form I learned in high school).  And some of the notes on presenting yourself were perfect.  The chapters are very short, clear and to the point, with enough one paragraph examples to help readers get the concept presented.

If you want to improve your speaking technique, this book would help.
