I found this book very useful for someone just starting out with Adobe Air development.  The authors work their way through most of the topics you’ll need to deal with to create a full application.

I wanted to use this as a way to make additions to the open source Spaz Twitter browser, but now TweetDeck offers all the capabilities I wanted to add or fix in Spaz, and there are some design decisions in Spaz that make it hard to do some basic things; this book let me figure that out over a few evenings.
