I don’t know what made me think of this book…. When I was a child, my sister had the second volume of this trilogy – the cover had a great photo of half-naked slaves in a desert with their master, dressed in leather and furs and an alligator-like head dress. I read the book at least twice, both times wishing I could read the first and later books (ah, I was probably 7 or 8 when I read it the first time and too dumb to ask my mom to check the books out of the library – she was a librarian in Fairfax county back then).
So now I’ve read all three. They are as good as I could have expected. Lots of plot twists, some death, some close escapes and of course a story of love too. This is “Star Wars” style stuff – don’t expect “2001: A Space Odyssey” (which I read when the film came out in 1968 when I was 9 years old – my sister had to take me to the movie for my mom to let her see it) in this book.
A childhood memory revisited and completed – wonderful!
