This was a great book – perhaps not a fabulous as Ender’s Game, but this one made me cry at the end. This is the story of Bean, an undersized orphan child almost dead from starvation on the streets of Rotterdam, who convinces a girl crew leader to try something new, bringing the evil Achilles into their life. She is killed by Achilles, and Bean blames himself. Thanks to Sister Carlotta, he ends up in Battle School and helps defeat the buggers at the right hand of Ender Wiggin. Its a story about survival, but its also a parable about leadership.
