I spent three months working in Saudi Arabia, and that gave me an interest in the Arab world. So, I decided to read this book as a companion to Inside the Kingdom (earlier in this blog).
The book is written in a simple, direct, story-telling fashion. The story pained me to read – a girl becoming a woman, looking towards a future, and that comes to an abrupt halt when the Taliban take Kabul and enforce their form of the Sharia (Sharia is the legal code of Islam).
