Our last day (and a last supper)

Fittingly, on our last full day in Italia we saw the Last Supper. See it fast, its almost gone off the wall entirely. We went to the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, a large art gallery on two floors, with most of the paintings on the second floor.
Here is a work by Carravagio.
There are also really cool Raphaelo drawings (which were the basis for some of his paintings).
Then on to the Brera picture gallery! This was another large picture gallery – its amazing that so much fine art was created in such a small area as Italy during the Renaissance.
Here is an image from Mantegna from the collection; this image is famous for its early use of extreme foreshortening.
We had a good lunch near the museum and walked around Brera, which was a little disappointing – we had expected an area like Greenwich Village but it was pretty boring. We walked back towards the Duomo and saw part of the local marathon that was run that weekend. All the good shopping was by our hotel, not near Brera as we had expected.
I finished Dubliners (Norton Critical Edition).
We miss our Basil and can’t wait to get home.
