When I got my iPhone of course one of the first things I did was customize the wallpaper, which is the image you see when you unlock it (and that’s the only time – hummm). So I downloaded an image of the HAL 9000 to use as a stop-gap until I could make one of my own.<\/p>\n

Jean Fouquet - Virgin and Child<\/p><\/div>\n

And I did. This is one of my favorite paintings, Virgin and Child<\/em>, by Jean Fouquet<\/a>. The painting is a the Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten<\/a> in Antwerp, and I remember clearly visiting it<\/a>; I looked at it for a while adn then went to get Aviva – she stood with her mouth open a good long time before telling me that this was an important work. I still love the pale Virgin and the red and blue angels – seems so very modern to me.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
