Imagine my surprise and delight when I spied these two volumes in a local bookstore!

These volumes continue the story of Yotsuba, a young orphan from Okinawa; I believe these books play on the racism often found against non-Japanese in Japan. Yotsuba is naive and at times a bit dense, but sometimes of course brilliant. I think the drawings are simple yet take advantage of the comic book form to provide a nice setting for the action that is Yotsuba’s life.

Volume 6 revolves around Yotsuba getting her first bicycle, and Volume 7 involves her quest to visit a ranch where she “meets” some sheep and milks a cow.

I highly recommend all 7 of these volumes – I hope more translations are on the horizon!

Translate

Title: Yotsuba&!, Vol. 7 Author: Kiyohiko Azuma Paperback: 208 pages Publisher: Yen Press; 1 edition (December 15, 2009) Language: English ISBN-10: 0316073253 ISBN-13: 978-0316073257 Title: Yotsuba&!, Vol. 6 Author: Kiyohiko Azuma Paperback: 208 pages Publisher: Yen Press (September 15, 2009) Language: English ISBN-10: 0316073245 ISBN-13: 978-0316073240 I completed the first 5 books a few months […]

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

3
151,654,289
post-3090","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-books","tag-japan","tag-yen-press","tag-yotsuba
["GET
