{"id":1372,"date":"2009-04-11T16:11:17","date_gmt":"2009-04-11T23:11:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alephnaught.com\/Blog\/?p=1372"},"modified":"2009-05-03T20:24:06","modified_gmt":"2009-05-04T03:24:06","slug":"why-i-use-twitter-tools-to-backup-my-tweets-on-my-blog-and-future-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alephnaught.com\/Blog\/2009\/04\/11\/why-i-use-twitter-tools-to-backup-my-tweets-on-my-blog-and-future-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"Why I use Twitter Tools to backup my tweets on my blog (and future plans)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content_div-1372\">\n<p>I&#8217;ve been retweeting (RT) with the #brilliant hashtag so I could keep a record of things I want to remember.\u00c2\u00a0 Twitter only keeps tweets for between one and three months.\u00c2\u00a0 That means I&#8217;ll loose the things I want to remember if I don&#8217;t back the tweets up myself.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/alexking.org\/projects\/wordpress\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter Tools<\/a> is a WordPress plugin that retrieves your tweets, storing them in the WordPress database.\u00c2\u00a0 It can create a daily digest of tweets as a post.\u00c2\u00a0 And it has a sidebar widget for displaying your most recent tweets.\u00c2\u00a0 I did have to hack this plugin so it would create a daily post from midnight to midnight (the author still hasn&#8217;t fixed this, even though I&#8217;ve tried to give him the patch &#8211; meh).<\/p>\n<p>And, as validation, a friend of mine told me the other day that he wanted a link I had posted &#8211; he intended to search my blog for the item instead of using Twitter Search.<\/p>\n<p>So what changes do I want to make?\u00c2\u00a0 I want to integrate my blog and web site; as part of that I want to take the daily twitter posts out of the default timeline; they should be searchable but not treated as new content to show people visiting the site.\u00c2\u00a0 I also need to finish fixing up the Twitter Tools plugin &#8211; I want to patch the latest version and get that working.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"translate_block\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<hr class=\"translate_hr\" \/>\n<a class=\"translate_translate\" id=\"translate_button_post-1372\" lang=\"en\" xml:lang=\"en\" href=\"javascript:show_translate_popup('en', 'post', 1372);\"><span>Translate<\/span><\/a><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alephnaught.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/google-ajax-translation\/transparent.gif?resize=16%2C16&#038;ssl=1\" id=\"translate_loading_post-1372\" class=\"translate_loading colorbox-1372\" style=\"display: none;\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" alt=\"\" \/>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been retweeting (RT) with the #brilliant hashtag so I could keep a record of things I want to remember.\u00c2\u00a0 Twitter only keeps tweets for between one and three months.\u00c2\u00a0 That means I&#8217;ll loose the things I want to remember if I don&#8217;t back the tweets up myself.
