{"id":1353,"date":"2009-03-31T06:27:53","date_gmt":"2009-03-31T13:27:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alephnaught.com\/Blog\/?p=1353"},"modified":"2013-04-27T06:32:16","modified_gmt":"2013-04-27T13:32:16","slug":"many-italian-tourist-attractions-are-getting-more-savvy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alephnaught.com\/Blog\/2009\/03\/31\/many-italian-tourist-attractions-are-getting-more-savvy\/","title":{"rendered":"Many Italian tourist attractions are getting more savvy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content_div-1353\">\n<p>We&#8217;ve been traveling to Italy for years (my first trip was 9 years ago).\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;ve noticed that tourist attractions are getting more savvy.<\/p>\n<p>For example, most churches and museums no longer allow photography inside, but they have nice full-color books available for purchase (when they don&#8217;t have a book they should allow photography &#8211; pet peeve, and this is becoming more common).\u00c2\u00a0 Many have instituted admission charges as well.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also more guidance for tourists; more signs in more languages, and in some cases volunteer docents hang around to engage people (we had a very pleasant experience at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alephnaught.com\/Travel\/ItalyVacation2007\/05172007.html#SantaCroce\" target=\"_self\">Santa Croce<\/a>, for example).<\/p>\n<p>One thing that hasn&#8217;t improved is the handling of crowds &#8211; streets are too narrow and roped areas to await entry are often too short, so the line spills out randomly.<\/p>\n<p>And, it all depends on how many tourists flock to the destination; for example, Bologna isn&#8217;t as tourist-friendly as, say, Florence, perhaps partly because its a college town.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"translate_block\" style=\"display: none;\">\n<hr class=\"translate_hr\" \/>\n<a class=\"translate_translate\" id=\"translate_button_post-1353\" lang=\"en\" xml:lang=\"en\" href=\"javascript:show_translate_popup('en', 'post', 1353);\"><span>Translate<\/span><\/a><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.alephnaught.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/google-ajax-translation\/transparent.gif?resize=16%2C16&#038;ssl=1\" id=\"translate_loading_post-1353\" class=\"translate_loading colorbox-1353\" style=\"display: none;\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" alt=\"\" \/>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve been traveling to Italy for years (my first trip was 9 years ago).\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;ve noticed that tourist attractions are getting more savvy.
