Two graphic novels about the post-rapture world

When I read an article about two graphic novels tackling the question of what a post-rapture world would look like, I had to read them. The rapture is when Jesus / God raises the good souls to heaven, this from the Christian liturgy. Both graphic novels consider the time after the good are risen and the final judgment commences.

The first novel, Sword of My Mouth, follows a small group of people who have undergone various deformations and changes, and an evil “angel” that seeks to control the food supply to cause starvation (one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse). Here’s a page from the book:

I like the roughish drawing and the way time is distorted within some of the pages – there are no panels which allows the illustrator even more opportunity to play with the layout of the story. And I think its a cool story – this book is begging for a sequel.

The second book is Therefore, Repent!. This book has a more traditional graphic novel style including panels. Here is a sample page:

In this case the graphics are more standard but the story has some nice twists, including a very shocking conclusion, which I won’t describe, go read this one!

Both books are black and white and both are reasonably quick reads; if you are interested in some alternative takes on the rapture and its aftermath, these graphic novels are for you!

Shit is dope as usual. Starshipz was wonderful album but it felt like S.T was holding back lyrically, plus it was a tiny tooas well smokey and hazy.. not enough upbeat songs plus too quite a few female songs (and not even in the catchy woman hating variety) still a classic tho.
