Pasadena

We decided to head to Pasadena on Saturday, so we dropped Iggy at doggy daycare (he loves it there, he runs with the other pups and comes home and sleeps like a log) and drove out to Pasadena.

We started with my goal for the trip – I wanted to see the Hiroshige print show at the Norton Simon Museum. It was fantastic, at least 100 prints on display! The Norton Simon bought the Frank Lloyd Wright collection after his death, so they have an extensive set of prints. I bought the small Taschen imprint on HIROSHIGE (TASCHEW) and the poster for the show. I love the design and form of most Japanese prints, and this show didn’t disappoint.

We then headed over to Distant Lands, a great travel bookstore; Aviva bought a couple books. On the way, we stopped at Redwhite + Bluezzz, a great jazz club; we just wanted Diet Coke and we must have looked tired because they gave the sodas to us for free!

We drove over to Vromans, a large non-chain bookstore – I needed a guest book for our Toastmasters club, and I got a copy of Twitterature: The World’s Greatest Books in Twenty Tweets or Less.

Then, we drove back, picked up Iggy, got Chinese carryout from a great place blocks from our house (Yang Chow), watched Kathryn Bigelow’s Near Dark, which I liked better than the Hurt Locker, and then crashed.
