I recently finished the first volume of the Uzumaki series and just had to continue the story of the spirals.

The main characters, Kirie, a school girl, and Shuichi, her recluse boyfriend, are caught up in a supernatural tail of spirals gripping a small Japanese town.  In this installment, Kirie faces the dead coming back to life, humans that become snails, pregnant women who must drink blood to feed their babies (and the babies eventually want to go back into the womb), and finally a storm that wants both of them.

The stories are very inventive and well crafted.  I love Ito’s drawings – they have wonderful texture and are clear and illustrative (and sometimes very scary!).

Now I need to get Volume 3 ….
