The Tim Burton show at LACMA
We went to LACMA to see the Tim Burton show before it left; the show was interesting, but packed – we had to wait 1 1/2 hours to go in, and even then it was hard to get close to objects. There were two rooms dedicated to film props and drawings, and then a few more rooms containing older drawings and paintings (and Tim Burton’s winning poster for Burbank trash trucks). Because we’re members we got a free show catalog….
Of course we walked around the collection – most notable for me was the wooden bust of a woman from Holland in the 1400s. Ai Weiwei also had up a zodiac of cast metal heads outside of the galleries – arranged in a circle and on metal pillars, they were quite spectacular.
- A cool installation
- A portrait of St. John the Baptist
- Ai Weiwei’s dragon head
- Ai Weiwei’s rooster head
- Ai Weiwei’s snake head
- An interesting frog statue
- Detail of a monster from a painting
- Japanese objects from the works selected by Tim Burton
- Side view of the wooden woman bust
- The back of the wooden bust; The hair is very cool
- The entrance to the Tim Burton show
