Closed Curtain

I read this book going to and back from Delft.

The book is one of the only ones in English about the red light district (de Wallen) in Amsterdam. It talks about the three kinds of prostitutes (streetwalkers, window girls and outcall/bordello women). The book spends some time giving the history of that area of the city (and the other two districts, which are less famous and smaller), and a lot of discussion about how prostitution came to be tolerated and then legal. There’s also a brief discussion of coffee houses (which sell hash and pot) and other related items in the district.
