I brought only two books for this trip:

• Serendipities: Language and Lunacy by Umberto Eco, and
• Opening Skinner’s Box: Great Psychological Experiments Of The 20th Century by Lauren Slater.

We left way too early for the airport; security wasn’t a big deal. We’re flying Aer Lingus on the trip out. We had to check our carry-on bags – apparently European airlines have lower weight constraints than US carriers. And, we sat on the plane, an Airbus 330, for over an hour pulled back from the gate because:

• they had to take bags off the plane for some transfers that didn’t show up, and
• weather north of O’Hare was dicy.

Aviva and I are crammed in like sardines – the seats are smaller than US carrier seats. And my laptop travel battery appears to not be working again (won’t be a problem on the way home – there’s power at the seat on the return trip).

But, we’re on our way to Dublin.
